GOASEAN Wins Two International Telly Awards

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 8 April 2016 – GOASEAN, a multi-platform travel channel promoting Southeast Asian destinations, won the Silver and Bronze awards for its original travel show The Eco Traveller at the 37th Annual Telly Awards.  The Telly Awards is the premier award honouring the finest and ground-breaking film and video productions, and outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programmes.

The winning show, The Eco Traveller features host Rovilson Fernandes who travels across Southeast Asia to show viewers what green, sustainable, social tourism is all about.

The Minister of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said that the honour of winning these two international awards further strengthens GOASEAN’s success and ability in delivering key tourism concerns and highlights in an innovative and relevant manner.

“GOASEAN did an outstanding job in delivering a powerful environmental message through its exciting original show The Eco Traveller by creating awareness on environmental issues on tourism and making these concerns easily relatable to the viewers. The compelling yet fun approach is inventive and signifies the effectiveness of GOASEAN’s objective in delivering ground-breaking content that highlights not only the attractions of Southeast Asia destinations but also elevates awareness of tourism issues to a wider global audience.”

The Minister further added that the awards were a proud accomplishment for the nation as GOASEAN was a relatively new Malaysian establishment that was tasked with promoting the ASEAN region as a single tourism destination on behalf of the ASEAN Economic Community.

“I congratulate GOASEAN for winning these international awards within less than a year in operation.  The awards are a validation of the influential role that GOASEAN plays in engaging viewers on the unique offerings of Southeast Asia and helping elevate interest in tourist to travel to ASEAN. I look forward to more compelling initiatives from GOASEAN in expanding the reach and creating interest in Southeast Asian destinations in order to engage and drive tourism as a key economic driver for ASEAN,” he said.

Apart from winning the Silver and Bronze Awards at the recent 37th Annual Telly Awards for its original production The Eco Traveller, this relatively new channel has also won other international awards which includes Gold for Best Travel Website and Silver for Best Tourism Website by the coveted W3 Awards 2015, Silver for Best Tourism by Davey Awards 2015, Best Website of the Month for August 2015 by Malaysia Website Awards, and many others for the quality of its innovative and outstanding website, GOASEAN.com and online platforms.

GOASEAN aims to increase distribution of their content through various programme formats catered to multiple platforms such as terrestrial, digital and high-definition formats.  GOASEAN programmes are now available through a wide range of channels including online streaming service iflix, ASTRO Channel 737 and via mobile application GOASEAN for Apple smartphone users.

A number of leading regional airlines will also be broadcasting GOASEAN’s flagship content to potentially millions of passengers via their In-Flight-Entertainment-Systems which include Malaysia Airlines, Malindo Air, Air Asia X, Bangkok Airways, Oman Air and Silk Air.
