Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 30 June 2016 – GOASEAN, the world’s first travel channel with a focus on tourism in the ASEAN region, recently celebrated its first anniversary throughout June 2016. To mark this historic occasion since the channel first went live on Astro Malaysia’s Channel 737 in June 2015, a series of events and giveaways were conducted by the GOASEAN team.
The festivities kicked off with the GOASEAN Content Showcase in TGV One Utama on the 1st of June, hosted by Papi Zak (The Halal Foodie) and Rovilson Fernandez (The Eco Traveller). Attended by friends of GOASEAN, esteemed guests and members of the media, the Showcase introduced three of GOASEAN newest shows – The Halal Foodie, The Eco Traveller and Food Maps! – in line with the arrival of these shows on the GOASEAN channel.
It also celebrated The Eco Traveller’s recent success in winning 2 awards at the 37th Telly Awards in the USA. Fellow GOASEAN hosts, Daniel Woodroof (Go Fast Or Go Home) and Nadiyah Shahab (Lost At SEA) were present to show their support for this momentous occasion too.
A major highlight of this Showcase was the ‘Snap & Win with GOASEAN Hosts’ contest, which saw guests of the event taking pictures with GOASEAN hosts that were present and sharing them on Instagram. The top three photos with the most likes earned their owners one ICE Watch each. Giveaways on the Showcase day ranged from gift vouchers to travel packages, courtesy of Shuhada Holidays, L’Oréal, Lazada, Shu Uemura, Zalora, Universal Traveller, GRAB, Expedia, and Samurai Wifi.
In the morning of 2nd of June, GOASEAN surprised early visitors at the Masjid Jamek LRT Station in Kuala Lumpur with free nasi lemak, a traditional Malaysian dish that is especially a favourite for breakfast. This giveaway marked the beginning of GOASEAN’s on-ground celebrations for its first anniversary. This was followed later in the day with the distribution of Lazada Malaysia shopping vouchers, Zalora shopping vouchers, ICE Watch cash vouchers, and GOASEAN balloons.
In appreciation for GOPASSPORT members, one lucky member was selected to receive an exclusive Jatim Theme Park, Surabaya on-ground package prize as well. Besides, special anniversary-themed packages were introduced on GOASEAN’s Let’s Go Now booking page, with exclusive rewards and benefits provided by GOASEAN’s partner, Sri Sutra Travel.
Through GOASEAN’s Facebook page, a collection of weekly giveaways was conducted, with four coveted prizes up for grabs: a Fitbit Blaze device, a Deuter Futura backpack, a Parrot Minidrone, and a GoPro Hero 4. These giveaways saw a great degree of participation, with thousands of entries being received throughout the month.
The success of this anniversary celebration marked a strong nod from the public for the GOASEAN brand and left no doubt that this would be the first of many anniversaries to come, especially now that the channel is sporting a brand new look on its website and mobile application.
